How to Stretch an Image for Printing Without Cropping

Fill A4, Letter, and other print frames by stretching — when to skip crop, and how to use Print templates in the browser.

Camera photos rarely match paper. A4, Letter, and tabloid each have their own aspect ratio, so fitting a phone shot onto a sheet usually means cropping edges you still need — or living with letterbox bars. Stretching remaps the whole bitmap onto the print size so the sheet fills to the trim.

Stretch when the job is to fill the sheet. Faces, logos, and passport-style marks still want crop or a locked resize; on most flyers and posters a light stretch reads fine once the print is in someone’s hand.

When stretch for print beats crop

Posters and flyers that must bleed to the trim hate empty margins. Packaging and product shots lose labels or silhouettes if you crop to the paper ratio. Scanned art that already has the right composition often only needs the sheet remapped — cheaper than rebuilding the layout in a design app.
