Stretch an X header to 1500×500
An X header, banner, cover, and background are 1500×500, and the profile photo covers the lower left of that strip. A post is 1200×675. The large card image is only 300×157, and the small card image is 144×144.
X header, post, and card sizes

What the profile photo does to a 1500×500 header
Header, banner, cover, and background are the same 1500×500 file. The profile photo sits on the lower left, so type in that corner is the type people do not read.
A post is 1200×675. A summary card is 1200×628. The large card image is 300×157 and the small one is 144×144. The card images are not scaled posts.
Profile and profile picture are 400×400. Stretching the header down into that square keeps neither the 1500×500 crop nor a round avatar.
How to stretch an image for an X frame
The header on X is a 3:1 strip. The post image is closer to 16:9. Treating them as one file is how headers get their type cut off.
- Step 1
Open the header artwork
1500×500 is a short strip. A square avatar stretched sideways will not look like a header.
- Step 2
Pick the X row
Header, banner, cover, and background are 1500×500. Post is 1200×675. Card is 1200×628. Large card image is 300×157. Small card image is 144×144. Profile and profile picture are 400×400.
- Step 3
Keep the header clear of the avatar
The profile photo sits on the lower left of the 1500×500 header. Stretch the subject into that corner and the avatar covers it.
- Step 4
Export the post image second
1200×675 is the in-feed picture. It is taller relative to its width than the header. Download it as JPEG if it is a photo.
X frames: header, post, and card
The chart repeats 1500×500 under several names. The other rows are different.
Header strip
Header, banner, cover, and background are 1500×500. One stretch covers those four labels. It does not cover the post.
In-feed post
1200×675. Wider than a square, shorter than the header’s 3:1. A screenshot of a 16:9 video is close and still not exact.
Link card
Card is 1200×628. The large card image is only 300×157, a tiny summary. Stretching the header down to 300×157 blurs the type.
Small card image
144×144. This is a thumbnail, not a header. Export it from a logo, not from the 1500×500 strip.
Profile
400×400, shown as a circle. Corners of the square are hidden.
Why stretch for X (Twitter) with ImageStretcher
The avatar covers the header
The header is 1500×500. X places the round profile photo over the lower-left, and the phone shows less of the sides than desktop.
Link cards are a second crop
A large card image is 1200×628. The small card image is 144×144. The post picture and the card picture are not the same crop.
Posts are a wide frame
A post image is 1200×675. A tall picture does not fill that frame without its own stretch.
The profile is a circle
The profile file is 400×400 and is shown as a circle. The header beside it is a 3:1 strip. Stretching the circle file into the header smears it.
Formats and limits for X (Twitter) stretching
Download PNG for an X header made of type. Download JPEG or WebP for a 1200×675 photo post.
A header built from type at 1500×500 keeps crisp edges as PNG. A photographic post at 1200×675 can be JPEG.
The 144×144 card mark and the 400×400 profile are separate squares. Scaling the header down does not make either one.
The avatar already owns the lower left
Pull a square out to 1500×500 and you have the header shape. The profile photo then covers the lower left, which is where a stretched subject tends to land.
1200×675 is the post, closer to a video frame. 300×157 is a tiny summary, and 144×144 is a square. The profile itself is 400×400.
